The Chillaz principle

Many companies state that they follow the textile industry’s Code of Conduct. But what does that actually mean? The Code of Conduct sets out the legal requirements that must be met in each country. These include regulations covering minimum wages, working hours, employment protection and the rights of employees. In some countries, however, the statutory minimum wage is not enough to provide a family’s livelihood. That’s why we choose to follow our own principles, which go beyond the legal minimum requirements. For more than 25 years, we’ve worked exclusively with a family-owned manufacturing partner in Istanbul (Büyükçekmece). The company is run by Tuncay, who leads a team of around 100 employees. It’s important to us that everyone working for Chillaz, whether at our headquarters in Vomp or at our production facility in Turkey, receives fair pay and feels valued as part of the Chillaz family.

It’s important to us that the employees in production receive fair pay based on a 43 hour working week.

A second home

“Many of the people working for our manufacturing partner have been with the company for more than 20 years. I know their children and have had the privilege of attending some of their school events. Today, some of those children are studying in Turkey and abroad. Every Friday, a doctor visits the factory to check the working conditions and provide free medical consultations and treatment for the team. I believe our principles go beyond the legal minimum requirements in many areas. We want to support a working environment where people enjoy coming to work, and that’s something I’m particularly proud of. Being able to produce clothing under these conditions while offering it at competitive prices is something we’ve achieved together with a team I have the greatest respect for.”
